I am honored that this website was named the Salem Press Library Blog Award for the Best General Interest Blog.  It means a lot to me that my peers think that what I write is worth reading. It also makes me just a tad nervous and self-conscious.  No pressure to perform, right?  That being said, it’s always fun to say “Hey, I won something!”  And apparently I get a plaque, which is kinda cool.

There were some other truly amazing nominees and award winners.  Go to the Salem Press site for a complete list.  There are so many smart people writing in our profession and their words and ideas are what inspire me too.

Librarian in Black has really changed in the 8 years since I started the site (OMG, has it been that long?!?!?).  It started as a near-Twitter-esque site sharing 3-5 new websites, articles, or tools every day.  Then it became a somewhat longer form site, where I shared fewer new finds in more detail.  And, of late, it’s become more of a professional pulpit from which I’ve stated my core professional values, looked to the future of libraries, and tried to effect change where I feel it’s needed most.  As many have pointed out, the posts I write that seem to get the best and most responses are those where I’m rather upset about something.  Apparently, I am good at, errrr, what?  Railing?  Being grouchy?  Calling bullshit on people?  Complaining?  Being pissed off at injustice?  I don’t know.  Call it what you will.  But I love writing, and now that I have a bit more time in my day I am hoping to write more often.  I can only hope that it will be worthy of your expectations.

So, cheers everyone!  Go change something!
