nielsenThe BBC News site shows a study done by the Nielsen company covering the top 100 sites in several countries in January 2010, and graphically representing the distribution of the sites into categories like social networks, retail, search, etc. You can see what sites within each category are the most prominent and popular, and how they relate to other sites in nearby categories.  It’s a really nice roll-over effect map.

What I thought was coolest was how they did it — they used Prefuse Flare, software developed right next door to me at the University of California @ Berkeley.  Very cool way of looking at the interwebs!
