Big news for Library Thing lovers. The Cambridge Information Group (owners of ProQuest, Bowker, Dialog, AquaBrowser, & Syndetic Solutions), acquired a minority interest (at or under 9%, but we don't know for sure) in LibraryThing. Bowker will now be exclusively distributing LT (i.e. selling it). The good news is that LT prices will not change and LT still provides tech support for its clients. Remember that AbeBooks bought a 40% interest in the company in 2006, and then AbeBooks was acquired by Amazon in late 2008. So, Amazon owns 40% of LT, Cambridge IG owns less than 10%. The good news is that owner and originator Tim Spaulding still retains majority interest. Go Tim! Tim's a really nice guy and I am so glad that he was able to capitalize on such a wonderful project that has such wild support in libraries and throughout the online readers' world.
