Some news from the American Library Association to help get the word out about ALA activities and library news to more people in libraries, ALA members or not:

  1. American Libraries Direct, a weekly email newsletter highlighting library-world news and resources as well as ALA opportunities, is now available to everyone.  It used to be just for ALA members, but now is open for subscription to all.

To read more or sign up check out the ALD website.

  2. American Libraries, the monthly print magazine that goes out to all ALA members, now has a blog written by editor-in-chief Leonard Kniffel.
  3. The current issue of American Libraries is also now available for free to everyone in as a PDF on the American Libraries website.  You used to have to be a member and log in to read it.  It has to be read through the ebrary reader, though, so you will have to download the ebrary reader and if you're using Firefox 3 you need to do a second step to work around a compatibility problem.

I would like to say congratulations to ALA for moving toward open access for its materials.  With the exception of the ebrary reader requirement (ookie), all of this is happy sunshine type stuff.
