LibraryFind
March 15, 2007
If you haven’t seen LibraryFind yet, take a look. It’s a beautiful open-source metasearch application from Oregon’s State Library. Anyone can download and install it. Built using Ruby on Rails, it offers a customizable interface, local collection indexing, and a built-in OpenURL resolver. The project’s motto, "one click to find, one click to get," is one that all library catalogs (metasearch or not) should adhere to. To see it in action, check out this demo from Oregon State University. It is much, much, much better than most of the other metasearch applications that I’ve seen, with the possible exception of WebFeat. For more info on the development of the project, see the blurb at LibraryJournal.com.
