Karen Schneider’s post on Free Range Librarian, "The User Is Not Broken: A meme masquerading as a manifesto," is an amazing redux of librarian attitudes toward users and user expectations that need to change depserately if our profession is going to thrive.  The amount of comments on this post is insane–and definitely worth reading in tandem with the original post.  There are so many good nuggets of "right on" wisdom in this post, so it’s hard to choose one, but here’s my favorite:

The most significant help you can provide your users is to add value
and meaning to the information experience, wherever it happens; defend
their right to read; and then get out of the way.
