There’s been a fair amount of buzz about libraries offering audio tours and orientations as podcasts or simple downloadable audio.  Three museums in California, as well as others, are now offering audio tours by phone.  Visitors to the museums simply dial a number on their cell phones, then hear the pre-recorded tour.  Only cost is the cell phone minutes (if you pay by minutes used).  This might be pricey for out-of-town visitors paying roaming fees, but for locals or  those with no roaming charges, this is a great way to offer information.  An LA Times article describes the tours.

The BBC has been doing this for a year or so, with walks along the English coast http://www.bbc.co.uk/coast/ There are notice ooards along the walk listing the appropriate number to call from your cell phone. Also MP3 downloads of course.
