California testing broadband over power lines
May 6, 2006
The California Public Utilities Commission is allowing high-speed ISPs to test BPL, broadband over power lines, throughout the state. This could result in the provision of much cheaper wired internet access to more people, and has also been touted as a way to enable municipal wireless a bit more easily (just plop a wireless router atop every 10th power pole). For more details, check out the CPUC’s opinion on the project.
