Wanna button?

February 13, 2006

ALA’s Office of Intellectual Freedom is selling "Radical Militant Librarian" buttons for those who want them.   $2.00 (1-10 buttons); $1.50
(11-50 buttons); and $1.25 (51 or more). All proceeds support the
programs of the Office of Intellectual Freedom.  These are the same folks who came out with the beautiful "I Read Banned Books" bracelets.  Attractive swag that promotes my professional ethics: what could be better?

“Wanna button?”

  1. Meg'n Says:

I’m sorry; I can’t help it. I find both the bracelets and the buttons to be hideously ugly…

  2. Library Guy Says:

My beef with the Radical Militant Librarian button is that there’s (ironically?) too much information, and it’s perhaps a bit too garish for my taste. I think they would be much more attractive if the buttons just read “Radical Militant Librarian” It may just be me, but I think keeping it simple, e.g., black buttons with white text, would be more effective.

Not having seen the bracelets, I can’t judge their aesthetic quality.

LibrarianAvengers really has to come up with something else, again… like she did with the buttons: http://librarianavengers.org/?p=76

  4. Sarah Houghton (LiB) Says:

Yes, she has a T-shirt too with that image…much cleaner design, I agree. As for the bracelets, while some of the scanned book covers were a little fuzzy, over all I thought they were well-made and expressed a good sentiment.

  5. Library Guy Says:

I wasn’t aware of the Librarian Avengers design. Very cool. If their button had been available at ALA Midwinter, I would have purchased it.

  6. Dan Says:

Militant and Radical tend to be redundant. The FBI’s phrase for us, “Damn Radical Librarians” I liked more.

It’s more in your face, or rather their faces.

  7. carolyn forsman Says:

carolyn forsman here. who made the bracelets. titles are no longer fuzzy! also a new kids/ya bracelet that fits adults: added Athletic Shorts and In the Night Kitchen. available thru ala or my site
