Posts from ALA

January 18, 2005

A lot of good posts have been coming out of the PLA blog about what’s going on at ALA.  Read on, my good friends, and learn much!

  • Jennifer May asks "Is Print Reference Dead?"  The clear answer is "no," but what do we as Librarians do to educate our patrons about the wealth of information that isn’t on the web–at least, not for free anyway…
  • Karen Schneider makes a suggestion about the Council session at ALA–that the organization webcast the transcriptions of the Council sessions so members can attend other sessions that conflict.
  • Beth Gallaway gives a summation of the Gaming Symposium.  Gaming in libraries, you might ask?  Yes, LAN Parties are cool, teens love ‘em, and it’s a service that’s pretty easy for us to provide.
  • and Karen Schneider lets us know that ALA has decided on Google Appliance to provide a search engine for its site.  I can’t wait to be able to actually search the ALA site again!
